Lana, I don't make these at home but I used to work at a home based studio... I've made those orchids at various studios though

interesting to know that mounted orchids need more watering / higher humidity. is that all of them, or more of just a majority of them?

Connie, that exhibit is my all time favorite...Highly inspirational... makes me feel that perfection is obtainable with perseverance.. really beyond amazing to me in so many ways from the passion to accuracy to the love of nature in the beautiful documentation through glass... I've been multiple times and that whole place (HMNH) is truly awesome!

I do sell my glass orchids but i don't make them regularly...the ones I posted are pretty much the only ones I did so far. i've been meaning to make more, and to get them far more realistic

Nice glass work. They kind of look like a combination of orchids.

Sometimes they look like Thelymitras, sometimes they look like Cymbidiums.

Other times they look like a mix of Paphiopedilums and Cymbidiums.

Pretty cool interpretations of orchids.

Not all of them, it depends on which species or type you're talking about. The requirements can be specific to the kinds of orchids you're interested in knowing about.

The kinds of orchids you can grow are limited by your skill level and/or the conditions of your growing area(s).

Also be aware of the climate in your part of Southern California. If you're somewhere in Ventura County, there might be some situations in regards to climate and weather that may surprise you, particularly if you're new to that area.

This may sound pretty self explanatory, but...it's not always sunny in Southern California, however, there are times when it's way too sunny in Southern California...

The climate where I'm at might be radically different from where you're at, even if Ventura County is Los Angeles County's neighbor.

I've only visited Ventura a few times for work purposes, but have never lived there, so I don't exactly know what it's like there. But from what I've heard from my friends of the neighboring cities on the border of Los Angeles County and Ventura County, it's not like how it is down here in terms of climate.

What I meant is, you can water your potter orchids roughly about once in 7-10 days in winter, and every 2-3 days in summer. Humidity can be increased by placing your pots on humidity trays. Mounted orchids will probably need daily dipping and/or spraying with water, possibly more than once a day, especially in SoCal dry climate. Just keep that in mind.

cool to see all the various types after searching those names I'd really love to start learning all the different kinds, hopefully I can keep up soon enough with the lingo. Hopefully soon enough I'll have specific orchids in my mind to copy rather than taking certain attributes from different flowers and combining them too!!

was at "trader joes" tonight though and was pleasantly surprised with their selection of orchids. at first I wasn't sure if it was all so-cal grocery stores that'd have cool orchids so i ran over to home depot but it was the same selection as the home depot back home! so back to trader joes and i scooped this lady up for roughly $15.

i'm goin to vegas tuesday - thursday so it might not of been the besttttt time to buy an orchid... but aside from this bed, laundry hamper, light... i wanted something in my room... so dull, empty, and colorless at the moment!!

i do want to get rid of the stick proppin it up, but i dunno if its strong enough to hold itself upright, haha, pot is real small too... and boring - will probably have to replace it with a glass one

3 days of no water won't kill it.

The pseudobulbs (the oblong, flattened, bulb-like growths) are the plant's water and nutrient storage organ for times when water and nutrients aren't plentiful.
