Is this an oncidium?
Hi, I'm new to growing orchids, I bought the first two at Home Depot (of all places), got hooked and have purchased 39 more since March (I tend to do things in a big way Problem is, I don't know what the first two are. They have tags and one say's "Vuyl. Marfitch and the other says "Colm. Wild Willie". I think they are both Oncidiums because I have found parts of those name in refence to Oncidiums but I really don't know. I would like to know what they are and how to take care of them, specifically, whether I should cut the spikes off now that the flowers have dropped off and if so where to cut them. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jen

Hello and welcome! You don't happen to have any pictures of the blooms, do you? I'm not good at names, though there are other people on this forum that are, but at pictures I'm pretty good.

Vuylstekeara is a hybrid of orchids between the following:
Cochlioda × Miltonia × Odontoglossum
Had to look it up, its new to me. Marfitch is from Charles Marden Fitch. I world renowned orchid grower and photographer.
Col = miltonia, odontoglosum, and oncidium

39 since March! Welcome home
The two you've mentioned here are both beauties What others do you have? Are you growing indoors or outside? Where are you located?

For all practical purposes, treat them like oncidiums. They are in the same group.
Your plants want to be watered and fed heavily when in active growth. You will know if you aren't watering enough if you see the leaves pleat like an accordion. At some point the pseudobulbs will mature and the plant will stop growing as fast, that is your sign to cut back on the watering a bit.
Bright, indirect light. Most don't mind getting a little cooler than your more typical phalaenopsis (down into the 40's F, for sure). Don't need to, but don't mind it.

Welcome from Florida Jen! I would love to see pics of your collection. One more purchase and you will hit the big 40.

LOL, that's what it feels like, how could I have become so obsessed so quickly? Do they launch addictive spores into the air or something?
I'm working on putting together a list....I've bought several more since I made that post......I'm going to need to sleep soon
I live on the west coast of Florida, near Clearwater and I have a large screened pool area that seems to be perfect, it has sunny spots and shady spots and areas in between. I just can't wait for something to bloom!
