Hi all,
Happy to join you all on this fantastic board.
I started with the orchid passion only 6months ago when I started reading about propagation of orchids. Because i'm just starting I started with phalaenopsis's.

I'm living in the netherlands so all my orchids are indoors (21degrees celcius, 50% humidity in the winter, in the summer 21-30 degrees and enough light, I think). This seems to work ok for phals (after 6months).

I have 9 mature phals which I bought or got for my birthday,
2 keiki phals,
21 baby phals which I bought in flask 1 month ago,
2 mature Dendrobium phalaenopsis I got from my birthday,
1 baby Rhynchostylis gigantea red
6 stem props which are in development, one is starting to produce leaves.

I have tons of question for you experts. I've read alot of threads already but I quess every house / environment has his do's and don't so propably I will make lots of mistakes and I hope you guys will correct me if I will do something stupid

Lol, well temporarily (2 years originally) is looking like it's going to turn into an unlimited amount of time!

Welcome to OB! Where you at in the Netherlands? If you like tucker's idea of joining an orchid society, a good place to start is to have a look at the Dutch orchid society website; the Nederlandse Orchideeën Vereniging. NOV nederlandse orchideeën vereniging As much as I'd like to join an orchid society here, my dutch is not up to snuff yet. I guess it gives me extra motivation to learn the language (which is difficult, I'm terrible at languages!)

Welcome! You are correct that every house and individual has their own unique style, although there are some relative constants to orchid growing across the board.

You will find the people here very kind and helpful, and willing to offer their insights and thoughts to any and all questions!

Good luck on your new hobby!

Welcome to the Board. You're right, everyone's growing conditions are different. Never-the-less it helps to know what has worked for other people. If you're lucky enough to have an orchid society in your area, I would suggest attending a meeting. Local clubs have more experience with the conditions and availability of supplies in your area. Good luck. Have fun.
