Welcome to Orchid Board. Many people join because they have trouble growing orchids. But it sounds like you're been pretty successful. Congratulations.

Thank you and you can do it, too! My desk barely gets any natural light at all; we have fluorescent lights overhead (typical office). I've come up with a very long-winded, complex way to get my orchids to bloom in-office. It takes a willing coworker with a north-facing window, a little fertilizer, a plant mister and a lot of of patience!!

Hi.. Biomech- There are alot of great Orchid vendors in the Chicago area, here are a few Oak Hill Gardens, in West Dundee, Il. Orchids By Hausermann, Villa Park and Natt's Orchids, Naperville. And like I mentioned in my other post our show is in Wheaton at the fairgrounds Feb.19 & 20th, there will be vendors from all over the midwest selling plants & supplies... Jim.

Thanks! My first two blooms only yielded one and three buds, respectively, but I guess practice makes perfect because the last one (which was right on my 30th birthday, ironically--August 22) yielded seven.

Hello and Welcome to OB!
Many orchids are much less care intensive than your aquariums. Sounds like you might have some good humidity levels with all the fish around.

That's very true. Fishkeeping is a very complicated, sensitive hobby...good background for orchid keeping! Browsing some of the posts here gave me an idea last night--what if I mount shelves on the walls, away from furniture that the cats could jump onto, and put the orchids on these shelves? Hmmmm, interesting idea! I'd love to have them at home, and this way they can be "wall art" as well!
