Cool Gary

Hello Board -

Joined about a week ago and am just now getting around to introducing myself. I live in Denver - next door to the Botanical Gardens - yes, I am spoiled. Currently have a north facing apartment so grow orchids primarily under lights. Have 5 Paphs, 2 Oncs, 1 Cym, 1 Drac, 8 Jewels, 1 Vanilla, 1 Max, 2 Bulbos, 2 Masds, and a few miniatures.

Does anyone have any growing or shopping tips for a CO Orchid enthusiast?

Welcome onboard! That's a diverse beginning collection, with some possibly conflicting requirements.. kind of like mine Though I am getting more particular, no more hotties for me I'm afraid.

My only advice is either stop right now maybe it's not too late from stopping orchids taking over or totally let yourself go ...buy orchids, learn, READ and read some more, listen, join a local club if you can, kill some, adjust your conditions, improve your culture, bloom them and relax

Oh yeah and take an overall evaluation of your apartment- decide what is and isn't necessary [who needs a bed to sleep in. or a kitchen table? ].. consider where you could possibly grow orchids and try to plan ahead for the future and the maximum possible size of your potential collection..

Welcome aboard Gary. Nice start on collecting. I like variety myself and every few years I cull out the 'chids that aren't performing in favor of nicer ones. Keep it up and you'll go broke like the rest of us!

Hi Gary Welcome to Orchidboard

Great little collection you've got going there! We'd love to see some

Damien gave some great advice in his post...especially the part about joining a local club if you can. I think there's something in the air at the meetings because you just come out of the room smarter!
