Hello from California Male
Default Hello from California

Hello everybody,
I've been a lurker for some time on this forum and have finally decided to come out of hiding. I am currently a college student at Berkeley but keep most of my collection at home in SoCal. SInce both of my grandfathers were avid orchid growers, I started growing orchids when I was very young but didn't get one to survive and rebloom until I was 10 or 11. Since then, I have expanded my collection by a lot but also shifted primarily to growing carnivorous nepenthes plants. I still dedicate room to my orchids though.

My main interest in orchids are the Stanopeinae and East Asian species like Neofinetias and Pleiones (by the way, does anyone know of a good source for Calanthe?). I also grow Cattleya alliance hybrids (mainly for my mother), vanda alliance hybrids, paphs, and whatever my mother picks up at the supermarket. I grow my orchids either outdoors or in a intermediate/warm greenhouse alongside my nepenthes.

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Krystle: Pleiones are some of my favorite orchids, but I haven't really grown too many of them. I have a formosana from Santa Barbara Orchid Estate and a formosana alba from a friend. I think Fraser's Thimble Farms is the only place with a good selection that ships to the US.
