Hello peeps! Female
Default Hello peeps!

Hi folks, I live in the North of England, and the orchid bug hit me 2 years ago. I started with phals, got a few dends and now am looking to extend my collection! Luckily there is an orchid man coming to a plant fair in the next village next weekend.
I am so jealous of all you Yanks ( no offense intended) You seem to be able to get named orchids at your local stores for not very much. We seem to be resricted to noids for 20 dollars in our supermarkets, to get anything else we have to go to a specialist nursery and spend loads of money! Judi

$20 for NOIDs That simply won't do around here. Actually many of our markets sell them for more than that. And if you go to a non orchid specialist nursery you will be lucky to see them for under $35 as NOID, sometimes they have unpleasant colours and odours. Intolerable. In anycase, glad to welcome a new member especially one from across the pond!! Welcome to the Orchid Board!!!

No offense taken. Call me a Yank anytime. It's a term of endearment coming from a Lyme.
(It reminds me of a better time when we all stood shoulder to shoulder in spite of our past.)

Welcome to the club. It's good to make your acquaintance.

Welcome to the board and no offense taken. Many of us trace our ancestory over to the BI's and some of us would like to visit the "homelands" one day

As for prices, I realize that orchids are a commodity and the more you sell, the cheaper you can sell them for. England was way ahead of the US (and Canada) in growing orchids and has the longest history of research and experimentation, so why the high prices and small supply?
