Susan, what about some paph's? I have several mini paphs, like Paph. spiceranium that do well in the low humidity on an East facing window sill. What direction does your Kitchen window face? Any other windows to grow in?

My biggest windows face south. Its really the best grow space I have.
Not much for east light.
I have a semi-decent west window in a cold room I dont often use.

I had thought Paphs enjoyed moderate to high humidity.
I wonder how Phrags might do?

Susan have you ever thought about giving semi-hydroponics a try?

A south window is great! The cooler west window is good also, especially for the orchids that need a cool winter rest.

I have a phrag in s/h culture, it seems to be a bit picky with the lower humidity, but then my problems could have been me trying to figure out that I needed to use less fertilizer on it.

For the paphs, they sit on a humidity try that goes dry so quickly that I can't keep water in it most of the time. I have the spiceranium in bloom currently with multiple growths. If you would have asked me before I bought them, I would have figured they would have killed over by now. If I can grow them, so can you!

Oh...and I must recommend a Neofintetia falcata for your window sill that gets cooler.
