It should handle 65 degrees without a problem. Relax, enjoy the beautiful roots with all their twists and turns. Look for new eyes on the roots. Enjoy!
I fertilized my sick orchid yesterday. Bought Orchid fertilizer and followed the instructions on the box. I used outside water no cholorine and warmed it as nights here are getting into the 40's. I soaked the orchid for 15 mins. Later in the day I misted it. Leaves are begining to look shriviled and one tip it turning real brown up to about a 1" in. On occasion a root breaks off and that worrieis me too.
How long am I supposed to let the orchid sit in the water to let it soak up the water it needs?
I have it hanging right against the south window for light, Is this too close to the glass and is it maybe burning the orchid leaves?
I am going to call daughter and see if she can walk me through posting some pix of it. I don't want it to die it is too beautiful. When we shower I take it upstairs and hang it in the bathroom to get the moist air too to help it. Nothing working so far leaves feel stiff and hard as well as swiveling.
Hello Linda. I am very new with growing vandas in a vase. I started my first one 3 weeks ago. I have mine in a south widow with about 50% shading with a sheer curtain. I have been soaking mine 15 to 30 minutes daily and it has now started popping out root tips everywhere. The days I have not watered it were days that I was away or when it was very cloudy. On those cloudy days I misted the roots a couple of time a day. The window temps have been ranging from 50 to 65 at night to 70 to 95 degrees during the day.
Thanks I think I need to move it more to the side as there is no curtain behind it at all. I have not been watering it that long either. Usually only 5 min except yesterday when I fertilized it for 15. I will try and water it for longer and see if that helps. I started misting the roots better yesterday too. Hopefully something will help it.
It has one large root with a couple of smaller roots attached that is only hanging on by a thread. What do I do with that? Just leave it alone or what? Thanks for all of your help Linda
Mistking
Looking for a misting system? Look no further. Automated misting systems from MistKing are used by multitude of plant enthusiasts and are perfect for Orchids. Systems feature run dry pumps, ZipDrip valve, adjustable black nozzles, per second control! Automatically mist one growing shelf or a greenhouse full of Orchids.
I would just leave the roots, the 'string' is actually the bit that transfers moisture to the plant and while that is intact the root may still be functioning.
Here are the pix of my sick orchid any help would be appreciated. Ii am now watering it 15 min a day and spraying it later in the day to help it. Than ks Linda
