Hi Skeenski, welcome to the OB.
I live in Canada, more specifically in Toronto and I have a bare root vanda that I have hanging in a south window, they like a lot of light, so the yellowing should not be from too much sun.

It gets watered every day by soaking for ten minutes in a bucket of distilled water. With our central heating in the winter I often mist it as well in the early afternoon, I have had my Vanda bloom twice this year, so this seems to be working for me.

I would also recommend watering weakly weekly. The yellowing leaves may be from under-watering.

When you are going away for a short time one thing you can do is place the vanda in a large vase or bucket and put a little bit of water in the bottom of the vase possibly with some pebbles. As the water evaporates hopefully the vanda will absorb some of that water. You don't want to have the roots touching the water for days at a time though, as they may rot.
Sorry this was so long, hope it was helpful though!
Sarah

Thanks tons for your help. I am using tap water to water it with, I wonder if it is the clorine and floride in the water that is making it turn yellow. I will go outside and bring in water from our watering lawn system and see if that helps it look better. They turn it off on 15th of this month so after that if it helps I will have to buy water for it. Probably won't make hubby happpy to buy water for a flower OH well. Thanks again for all of your help.. Linda

Default buying water

Hi Skeenski, I don't think there is any need to buy water, just allow the water to sit 24 hours in a bucket, so that the chlorine can evaporate somewhat.

What about the floride that is in our water that won't evaporate. Might that be turning the leaves yellow? Thank you so much for your help.
I went outside and got irrigation water to use for a few days. I will see if there are any changes. I hang it in the bathroom when we shower so it gets the humidity. Hopefully that might make it happy too. Linda

I'm using tap water on my Vanda and we have floride in the water here as well. I've not had it cause a problem. I use rain water on some other Genuses that don't like too many disolved minerals, but my Vanda seems fine with the tap stuff. We do have good quality tap water here though.

Thanks Rosie guess it isn't the floride making the leaves yellow then. I have it on a south window and from what I am hearing that is good. It's leaves aren't happy they are yellow green. I need to find fertilizeer and see if that makes it happier. I have only had it a week and I have not fertilized it yet. have to find the fertilizer first. Monday's quest i guess. Thanks for your help Linda

We just turned the heat on this morning because it was 64 in the house. I have only had it a week but 3 days was in Tenn and we flew home last Tues. Leaves are all turning yellowish green one is almost all yellow. I am so sad. I take it upstairs and hang it in our bathroom for humidity while we shower. It hangs in my south kitchen window the rest of the time. I run water over the roots and leaves daily. I am trying to be good to it but it hates me I think.

My husband says my thumb is black not green. Thanks Carol Linda

We should have good quality water here too it comes right out of our mountains. I don't know what it's problem is. However one root broke off and was laying in my sink this morning that made me sad. Thanks Linda
