I have a large Dendorbium, I got from an old friend. I have attached a picture of it - can anyone name this for me, or is it a nameless hybrid, No idea.
Have read abit about Orchids and have done abit of cross pollination, nothing fancy. the 2nd thing i wanna know is when 2 orchids are crossed, will the orchid seeds have the same characteristics across the board or will they be in %'s of similar characteristics.
Your Den is likely a nameless hybrid. It looks from the flowers to be a cross between a Phal type and an Antelope type. These are quite easy to care for and don't need a winter rest.
Seeds even from two idendical plants can vary from their parents and will not have identical characteristics. The only way to get identical plants is to clone them, which is something done a lot in the mass produced orchids you pick up in your local stores.
Welcome to the Orchid Board, you have joined a great group of people. Enjoy the nutty ones like me.
We all have those NOID's, that sometimes try to outdo themselves, just because they are tying to make up for not having a name, they want to be sure you remember them..... I give them a name, pretty boy, rover, spot etc.
My NOID's bloom for months and months. The special named one gives me a bloom that last 2 days.
Yeah, I love my NoID's and I make up names for them all. I have one NoID which is a really massive Phal with over 30 flowers just now and is my favourite even though it has no name.
Thanxz evry1, just a few more Pxz of the Dendrobium - this one was taken before the flower stalks were in full bloom plus sum pixz of a few others I have. Enjoy
PS These are from Fiji Islands.
