small dove orchid?
Default small dove orchid?

Hello, My Aunt gave me an orchid which she called the dove orchid. Now after seeing the 'Dove Orchid', I know it is not. It looks like a dove in bud form. Can anyone help?

Wish i could, I don't have one. The Orchid is small and white with the bud looking very much like a dove but when it blooms it's white with yellow but very insignificant. The bud would be 2 cm in length and was growning in a tree in north queensland. I hope you can help it's driving me crazy.

Welcome to the Orchid Board! You'll find lots of helpful people here, hope someone can name your orchid. It's really tough without a picture of the bloom. Good Luck!

Common names are difficult because they vary a lot arround the world. For example the british Ghost Orchid is nothing like the Ghost Orchid most people here on OB know.

Here are some pics I've found online when searching for Dove Orchid.

Could it be this one, a Peristeria?
Wikipedia - Peristeria)
IOSPE PHOTOS - Peristeria

Or this one, a Dendrobium?
Daintree Valley - Dove Orchid

Or this one, which has no scientific name on the pic?
Flickr - Dove Orchid

Or this, another with no scientific name, I think it may be another Peristeria?

Dendrobium crumenatum (as in Ron's second link)seems to be the most likely choice as the 'other' dove orchid, and would grow in your north Queensland location, though I don't think it is native. An image search should find plenty of other pics on the 'net.

Ron's third link is another Peristeria.

Dendrobium crumenatum is correct.
The blooms last only for one day. you get thousand blooms.
They bloom on cloudy days and those are pretty fragrance .
Yes the lip is yellowish.

It was actually me... Rosie... not Ron
I did think after I loaded my new avatar that it looks a lot like Ron's but if you see the two together they are actually quite different. Same flower though and I've just got it to bloom for me for the first time which is why I wanted to use it.

Don't you think this one looks like a dove? It's supposed to be called a White Egret Orchid (Habenaria radiata) from Japan.
