A Legacy to My Grandfather.
Hello Everyone, my name is Dave I live in a small town in Northern New South Wales, Australia and I have just recently started caring for orchids.
Both my Grandparents were killed in a car crash a little over 8 months ago now and whilst settling their estate I decided that as a legacy to my Granfather I would take over and care for his orchid collection. Unfortunately due to failing health in his later years many of these orchids were not in great shape as he could no longer give them the time they required, however after re-potting most of them (as best I knew how at the time) they seem to be doing O.K at least for now anyway and a few of them are actually starting to bloom!! The other thing about the collection is that very few have name tags attached which is a shame as I remember all of his orchids in the earlier years had tags on them, so I am not likely to ever know exactly what I have in my collection, never the less I will keep growing them and add names if and when they become available, maybe some knowledgeable people from this site can help me with that.
My collection consists mostly of Dendrobiums, however I do have some 6 or so Cattelyas and (forgive my ignorance) 3 or 4 "slippers" as well as a couple of "crucifix" orchids, oh and can't forget a few Cymbidiums as well, so over time I will post some pictures to see if anyone is able to help with identification.
I have been told orchid collecting is like a disease once you start, you can not stop, so I am intrigued and excited about the future of my orchids.
Cheers!

Welcome to the Orchid Board! I keep a written list of my orchids by number, so that if I lose a tag, I can still look it up and know what it is. (number on outside of pot) I hope one of my grandchildren will take over my orchids some day, that's kind of special. Start a list for your purchases as this soon becomes an obsession. We'll help if we can.

Welcome to orchid board and what a great way to remember your Grandfather.
That Dendrobium you've posted a picture of is really pretty.
I don't number my pots, but I do keep a seperate list of them all with flower photos, which at least means if they lost the tags I could probably work out what is what as they flower.

the shape of the first one looks like dendrobium kingianum, but im o sure about the color ( could be an alba ) but i would treat it like a den. kingi.
the third one looks like epidendrum radicans. but again, you cant be positive. but it is definitely and epidendrum
