Default Hello from Boston

Hi everyone,

I want to thank you for such great community with a wonderful wealth of knowledge. I recently was bitten by the orchid bug: my dad received a huge, gorgeous double-stemmed white Phal with 10 buds on each spike while he was in the hospital this past June.

Unfortunately, it met with an early demise due to overwatering. I've learned here how to avoid that as well as the steps I tried to do to save it. I cried because I couldn't.

Anyway, the house is now populated with 12 Phals (10 in bloom) with the 13th in transit.

Thanks again, and I look forward to life-long learning here.

Welcome to Orchid Board

Sounds like you've well and truely got the orchid bug. Glad the first one didn't put you off, they are such beautiful plants and we all kill a few, especially as we learn, the enjoyment is worth it though

WR, Ted and Rosie, thank you for your kind welcome. The "Orchids in Bloom" section seems like the proper place to post current pics, right?

Rangiku,

Welcome to the OB - yes, the "Orchids in Bloom" is the right place to showcase blooms in your collection. If you have a specific question, concern or item of interest germane to one of the other boards (i.e. pests, phalaenopsis alliance, etc.) it might be appropriate to post a flowering pic somewhere else too.

By the way - I'm in the Boston area too. Are you going to the MOS auction on the 14th?

If so I'll keep an eye out.

- J

Hi J,

Thanks for the welcome and just finished exporting some pics to upload. And, yes, I'll be at the MOS auction. Meet you there!

Welcome to OB and the wonderful hobby/obsession of orchid growing.
I live in Amherst in Western MA. I haven't made it to a Mass Orchid Society meeting yet but I will eventually. Joining a society near you is another great way to learn, and make new friends.

Thanks, Connie. From reading the boards, I noticed you are out in Amherst. Don't you have a really nice orchid grower out there? Hope to see you at an MOS meeting some time. Or, maybe I will make it out your way - beautiful part of the state.
