hi boyong, your phals seedlings are they from a flask?
just keep your phals in the shade with access to morning sun. it's good to use charcoal, fern chips, or osmunda fern fiber if you're the type of person who likes to water daily. rice hull is a good medium too. some of my phals are mounted specially the schilleriana/stuartiana (philippine specie). the philippine specie phals with variegated leaves i just discovered from my bohol vacation are better mounted on wood. it's sprouting keiki growth from the roots like mushrooms.
Anyway, I'm purchasing those imported phals from taiwan at a seller in manila seedling bank right after it drops all the flower. They have plenty at the back of their yard and cost is cheaper compared to 700 to 900 pesos if in full bloom. i had one now with a new spike under my care. the spike though branched out from an old spike and is now around 2 inches long.

Hehe possibly the one you're talking about is the seller near Agham Road? In front of guard post? Oh yeah there's plenty and lots and lots of bloomless bargains there (vandas, phals, onc, etc)

I also bought 1 bloomless phal there last thursday and im about to repot her this afternoon. You may buy some flasked phals and catts at the first store there (forgot the store name and availability is unsure) if you're taking the Edsa entrance.

oh ok that must have been the VS orchids store. I got a catt flask from that store because they don't have phals during that day. i'm actually much closer to their tagaytay farm but they don't have flask in there. also, their phals don't look like those we get from the store in front of the guard post. the flowers are the more common or usual one that I'm seeing along the stretch of aguinaldo hway in silang, cavite.

i've got no idea if it is from flask, i bought my phals and cat and dendrochilum seedlings from one of the store in msbf (near rain forest garden), it was small then with only 2 small leaves mounted on plastic cup with "paslak" as medium on it. so i just copied their medium when i repotted it (with coco cubes and coal under neath) and still going well.
better check that store this weekend, is it beside the agham road security guard post?

got mine for 250. i really don't know if that's a good buy and if there's a more cheaper alternative but judging from their prices of in bloom which is in the 500 to 900 range it should be a bargain. how about you makaldoy?

only 3 for Php 100. along manila seedling bank compound, the outlet with glazed pots displayed in front along with vandas, if from agham gate around 4-5 stores at the right side, in front of a building with cactus stores.
