Orchid Newblet from McAllen, Texas~
Um~ Well, hi! I guess there is where I should introduce myself, no? My name is a secret, but you can all call me Fehize! I am a Hispanic from the Rio Grande Valley region, which is pretty much as south as you can go in Texas until you hit the Rio Grande River! I'm afraid of [as well as dislike] cold weather, and I love the sun!
The Rio Grande Valley, however, does not tend to like any sort of vegetation, or other things that one might call real trees... Minus cactus and palms. Thank goodness for the power of air conditioner!
Well, a month ago - on July 4th - my mother received an orchid [Phalaenopsis, I believe]. I found it to be such a pretty plant! I've seen them before, but only in pictures, so it was a real treat!
Alas... we soon came to realize that our 'let's just water it and throw it into our AC's wind-path for night' and 'let's place it by our window during our 1oo*F average days for sun' combo wasn't exactly working right...
So! I am here to learn about orchids ['cause I would really like to have more than just that one, as well as not kill the orchid we currently own ], talk, and also try to be a step above treating one like it was a cactus! -laughs-
I do have a digital camera... Ah wait, my sister owns the camera. No pictures as of yet, mainly 'cause she doesn't let me touch it. xD
So... yeah. Um. -waves-

Hi Fehize!
Glad you found us!
Yeah, orchids don't care for a/c blowing directly on them, or the heater for that matter either ... but some like, or at least tolerate, heat ...
Lots of helpful people with lots of experience growing orchids in all kinds of conditions here, so you came to the right place!

You have come to the right place with all your questions. Always someone with a similar orchid or problem. Hope you make lots of posts. I was traveling through Texas last year and the hot winds at night were terrible like little hurricanes, and I live in Florida. You have to grow indoors!!! Enjoy!

What a warm welcome! -smiles- Thanks, guys~
Ah, yeah, some part of Texas are really hot [like here], but others are not too bad at all. Though, I've only ran into those hot winds during the daytime.
Once I take some pictures, I'll go ahead and post outside of this thread. Sadly to say, something is wrong with my Orchid, hence looking around and finding this place. Ahaha?
