Hello everyone
New member introducing myself. Greetings! Small time hobbyist grower with two greenhouses and about 90 orchids. Lots of vandaceous, some phals, some miniatures, and other incidentals. Looking forward to being a member. Happy growing everyone.

You sure don't sound small time to me, .
What kind of miniatures. I am currently doing some "research" on what kind of mini orchids I could get to thrive in a well ventilates, well misted large fish tank turned into a terrarium. I have a list, but I still have lots of time before I do anything.

Hi...if you consider 2 greenhouses and 90 'chids "small time" then my husband is in for a rude awakening!

Ok, well maybe small time isn't such an exact description; after all, one can never have too many orchids! Tindomul1of9 - there are lots of cool miniatures that would probably do well in your controlled environment. I have a sophronitis, phal wilsonii, digbyana, dendrobium unicum and encyclia tampense. Have you ever seen any of Andy's Orchids (On A Stick)? He has got a great selection of some fascinating minis. I just saw him at the AOS spring meeting/show in Orlando. Awesome stuff. Good luck with your terrarium.

Now that I see you're Tere from Ocala, I realize we've spoken on the AOS board! I'll be looking for you and your little red wagon at Redlands in 3 weeks! We had a great local show over the weekend and our club is making a weekend trip to Homestead. My plan of attack is to get some miniatures that will do well mounted for me here in Spring Hill. I saw a demo of mounting on driftwood and I have just GOT to do it myself.

Can you post on a seperate thread anything you might have learned about mounting orchids. I myself really want to learn, as this is an integral part of my vivarium plans.
I have bought 4 mini's from Andy's Orchids, including one Angraecum dideri at the NY Orchid Show last week. And my Haraella odorata which is pictured in my avatar. I got it to bloom twice in my viv!

Yes, CB977, I did recognize your name too from AOS. Won't be long now until Redland. I hope you find some good miniature stuff to make some mounts. If you haven't tried your hand at that yet, just make sure you keep them watered real well. They dry out really fast, especially in our Florida weather and if you have fans or anything you use for air circulation. Mine are in my greenhouse and they get soaked once a day and misted several times a day. Again, have a blast at Redland. I'm counting the days.
