Good to see that the Orchid addiction is international. Was bitten about the same way 35 years ago. Not many noids in my collection anymore but then the collecton is around 5000 now. Thinking of moving to the old farm and really getting into it. Note that the pleasure if each new bloom is always the same. Will stop growing orchids - maybe - when they throw dirt in my face. Guess it depends on which way I go. I started with Cats and the largest part of the collection is cyms. with Slippers catching up. Good to have you join Orchid board - Welcome.

If you're going to keep a database you need to have everything, including the NoID's, tagged with either a name or a number (or both).
MS Excel alows a simple spreadsheet to be kept, I record details such as the date it was last flushed, the date it was last repotted, notes from each check of the plant etc. All of these are stored against the number and name of the plant.

I've got tags on my shopping list of things to buy when I next go to the garden centre (no, orchids aren't on the list).
I actually used MS Access to create a database. It's not going too badly, I'm just having trouble coding a system to load and view pictures. I searched through some of the old threads to get an idea of what details to record.

MS Access is a good way to do it, just needs a bit more IT knowledge that MS Excel. I'm using something a bit like MS Access these days having started with MS Excel. You can do a bit more with that if you know what you are doing.

I searched on-line for some solutions to my picture load/view problem and have a few options now. I'm used to using Excel as a spreadsheet and didn't want to get myself confused using it as a database as well.

Orchid Wiz - Encyclopedia & Journal is sure a nice way to do it as well as orchid research. It is a little expensive but not for what you get.

I'm a sucker for mistreated orchids that need a bit of TLC, and always ask for a discount on the price (I've been very lucky so far). I've recently spread out into other orchid alliances and hope they do as well as the Phals.
I also got the shock of my life today and discovered one of my smaller Phals is scented.
