Default hello

This is my first time doing a post, so i hope i am doing it right. I recieved an orchid august of last year (embarrassed to say didn't know what it was) anyway i found this site and it has helped me out tremendously. I now have 16 orchids..did lose 1 but would have lost lot more if not for the great help here, so i decided to join today. I do have a question..can an orchid grow a spike at anytime of year? My husband bought me an orchid on valentines day (sad looking 1) and i ended cutting off the spike it had been in flower long time (march) now it looks as if it is growing a new spike and we are in july! It has grown new roots..but no new leaf..it is a noid as all my orchids are. It's flowers are compact and waxy feeling..any help would be great thanks.

You didn't mention what type of orchid you have, but I am assuming it is a phalaenopsis orchid. If that is correct, then yes, it can bloom at various times throughout the year if given the proper growing conditions (light, temps, fertilizer, etc.). New root growth is a great indication that your orchid is doing well, and I wouldn't worry about the lack of leaf growth. Typically, my phals that are in spike will not grow new leaves at the same time...leaf growth typically tends to occur after blooming.

Welcome to the Orchid Board, glad you could join. Many orchids are able to spike multiple times a year, while others do it once a year.

Welcome to the OB. I don't know if it is or not but you'll soon find out. BTW I love the pot in the first picture. It's perfect.

hi!
it doesn't look like a root - so I think it's a spike
I have a couple of phals that are always growing it seems, spikes, foliage, roots.
