Default Greetings from Portugal!!

Hi everyone!
I'm Bruno, i'm just sixteen and i live in a village close to Lisbon, Portugal.
I've been looking trough the forum and there's allways something to learn. Because of the pictures of the amazing orchids that members have i've decided to buy an orchid myself. I got an Oncidium, i searched for the biggest one i saw on the store and it's flowering time has already ended.
Here are some pics so you can see if it's something wrong about it:

I hope i can learn lots of things with you, Bye!!

Your onc looks pretty healthy. You should repot since it has no blooms. It's always a good idea to repot when you get a new plant

what you would be doing now is called an 'emergency repot' DO NOT BE ALARMED! its not a real emergency, but the stores usually dont care for the orchids correctly if its not an specialty orchid nursery. so the onc. has probably been in that medium for a while. and with bad watering habits at the store, its best to get it into some fresh medium.

i dont have any oncidiums, so i dont know about the potting MEDIUM. but i do know that ocidiums are epiphytic orchids. that means that they live on trees in nature. so they like good aeration in the potting medium. i think most people either grow them on mounts or in a coarse bark mix. something like this Oncidium and Seedling Classic Orchid Mix hopefully someone will chime in with more information on the temperature, llight, and watering needs.

ps. correct me if i got anything wrong

Welcome to Orchid Board

I agree with Help that it's a good idea to repot sooner rather than later. I would water it just before it dries out, but I'm still learning about Oncidiums myself. I teneded to let mine dry out originally but they were getting too dry and wrinkling a lot so I've increased watering a bit.

thanks for the welcoming iīll see what i can do in the short time. Itīs a little hard to find bark mix around here. I can find "orchid soil" it has what it looks like some common garden soil mixed with bark and coconut fiber, is it good for the repoting? The soil looks dry so i think that i should give it some water. Should i move it to a bigger vase? Itīs better a plastic or a ceramic one? Thanks for all the replys

If it looks like soil then it's not really good except for terestrial orchids (which this is not). The soil types of medium can cause rot in the roots and are not a good idea.

Unfortunately I don't know what you can buy where you are. I buy from www.orchidaccessories.com in the UK but shipping is likely to be expensive to Europe so you would be better to find something closer I think.
