Default Hello from NYC

Hi my names Thomas. I'm not exactly an Orchid hobbyist as I do not have any at the moment, and while i have kept them in the past and know no other plant that's as beautiful and interesting to keep I am mostly content with just visiting my dad, who is a very into them, and looking at his collection. Recently he asked me to help him try and ID a plant that recently popped up in his garden to see if it is an orchid, he believes it is. So i figured I would post here first, and maybe get some replies as to how i would go about getting an ID. Note: i barely know anything about orchids Reason my dad isn't doing this himself is because he spends too much time with his fishes and plants to learn how to use a comp Anywho i have a few pictures not excellent quality but I think passable that I can post. So its nice to you all, and ty for reading

Welcome to OB!

I am sure we can help you out. Even if its not an orchid we will probably get an ID for it as long as it isn't a hybrid. Just post a pic for us to take a gander at. We love pics here.

welcome!
It does look rather like an orchid - tho I don't know what type - something native in your area most likely - hopefully someone can help with an ID

Welcome to Orchid Board.

I would agree it looks like an Orchid but I can't help with an ID I'm afraid. The flowers remind me of a Cymbidium, but the leaves look more like a Cypripedium. As these two are very different orchids I think it must be something completely differerent... but the flowers certainly have the characturistics of an orchid.

Hopefully someone else will know more.

If you can't get an answer on the ID here, they try posting the pics in the ID forum. Maybe you are just not getting the right people reading it here in the intro section.
