Well, I was perusing this site and it seems like a nice community, so here I am. As my forum "handle" implies, I'm from the beautiful islands of Hawaii. Thing is, I don't live there anymore, not for the past 23 years. These days I live in MA and it's been 5 years since leaving Florida. While there after getting out of the military 14 years ago, I picked up my love of orchid growing and my lanai was chock full of 'em, at least 80. Alas I gave them up (to a good home of course) upon deciding to move to MA. Due to the weather which I thought would be unforgiving, even in the home, I said good-bye to my floral friends and headed north. I am happy to say however that I'm picking up the hobby once again. After reading about and becoming more comfortable with techniques that can get orchids through the winter months, I figure I'm going to give it a try. It's funny, of all the things I could hold onto that reminds me of home, it's orchid growing that really does it for me. Probably because my father was a big orchid man when I was a kid. His love of orchids and basically nature in general has always stuck with me. Anyways, wish me luck and it's nice to be among other orchid maniacs.

Nice to meet you! I bet it was hard to say goodbye to 80 orchids... but at least you gave them to a good home. I hope your new collection fills your heart : )
