Nice to meet you Ryan! Sorry to hear about your dad passing, I hope you have a heart full of memories.
You say you live in Portland? Such a lovely place! We drove through there a little while ago, just when spring was springing and everything was budding out. I would love to move there and we have been looking for jobs for my husband, but to no avail YET Anyway, my family lives in Roseburg and Sutherlin Oregon! I just gave a link to my mom of an orchid place for her to check out in Eugene called Briggs Hill Orchids, next time you go that way, scope it out and tell me all about it! I know that is a few hours south of you, and who knows, you may have some nice orchid places closer! Tell me all about those too
Anyway, enough babbling, nice to meet you, from someone else bitten
smiles,
monica

I have the same staring contest with my orchids!
My husband has asked me why I look at them in the morning and then again when I get home at night. He swears that they can't grow that fast! I just can't get enough of them and now I get just as excited over new growth as I do the flowers!
Keep us posted on your progress. We love pictures so don't be shy, especially when those flowers come along!

Hi Ryan,
I am also a newbie to the board, though not orchids! I also live in the PNW, and it is a great climate for phals, paphs, and any of the cooler growing, low light species! I also have the Orchid bug BAD, and just received my 15th 'chid in the mail today (a 41 dollar orchid, none the less!). I also have an orchid staring problem, and look at most of my orchids up close at least once a day, if not more!
You will learn a ton, and have many an anxious moment cultivating your orchids! Good luck, and this place is a great resource!

WOW! didnt realize i had all these posts on here! thanks for all the welcomes!
Good luck finding a job in Portland, its a great place to live! I was planning on checking out the place in Eugene when I get some time to drive down that way, will let you know if/when i do! There are a couple places a bit closer, but i have bought so many plants from Trader Joe's lately that I am having to put the brakes on. They really have healthy plants, and i have found two really nice paphs there.
Tropicgirl:
they do grow that fast! just really really little bit at a time. if you stare at them enough you can tell the difference.
thanks for all the welcomes! i have added some more photos to the flickr gallery i originally posted on this thread if anyone is interested in being updated on my collection.
