Hello from sunny Florida!
Default Hello from sunny Florida!

Well, I just joined in here and decided to say howdy. I have been growing orchids for about three years and have gotten lots of good advice from the forumns here. I have been meaning to join for quite some time, but being a procratinator at heart it has taken me this long to actually take the plunge. Well, here at last!

Hey!

I am in central florida and focus predominately on slipper and jewel orchids. In the slipper orchids I focus moslty on pahiopedilum and recently have started experimenting with growing them under artifical lights. Previously I have grown them both indoors by windows (on humidity trays) and outdoors under several large oak trees for shade. I did have a greenhouse for a while, but it was one I had built with a plastic lining which the harsh Florida sun has sadly long since destroyed. My jewel orchids grow nicely as houseplants with regular misting.

If you're into Paphs and can get to Thonotosassa, you should go check out June's Oorchid Estate...
it is spectacular and she only carries the very best plants

Hello fellow Floridian! Welcome to the OB! I was also a lurker before joining. I took advantage of the forums for years, now I'm so glad to be a part of them!

Thanks for all of the welcome guys, I really feel the love! And thank you for that tip Susanne! I have never been to Thonotosassa; although it is only about an hour away from where I live. Somehow, I feel a day trip coming on soon: I shall have to delve in and check it out . I looked at the website and it looks pretty awesome. Most of my current paphs come from Tom Ritter Orchids in the Kissimmee area... his greenhouses are quite amazing!
