Default Hello

I'd like to introduce myself,

My name is Erika and I stumbled upon this forum looking for some advice on how to care for my orchid plant.

I am a newbie, though this is my second orchid, the first wasn't successful -_-! But I really want my new one to be healthy and beautiful! I also want to learn to be a good orchid cultivator, because my dream is to have a big collection of orchids.

My favorite type is Phalaenopsis, especially the large-headed white flower. But all orchids are just beautiful to me.

Thank you and blessed be!

This a picture of the blooms on my orchid (about a month ago), I am not 100% sure if it's a true phalaenopsis or a hybrid.

I bought her at Home Depot and have been very reluctant to repot her though she has moss at the roots, because I am afraid to stress the plant.

Right now the blooms have gradually fallen off and I hope that repotting won't cause to much stress for her.

well, how many of the buds were open when you bought it? how long ago did you buy it? because about 1 1/2 - 2 months is typical blooms time. how often do you water? i would wait to repot until after the blooms are done. can you take a picture of the roots? or at least the medium? if you can see how the roots are doing, that would be grealty helpfull

Hello and welcome to the OB.
Your plant is very pretty and it is a true phalaenopsis, probably a hybrid.

Welcome to Orchid Board. Love your Phalaenopsis, really nice looking.

Phalaenopsis is the Genus of orchid, within the genus there are many different species and then hybrids between the species. Yours is therefore a hybrid within the Phal Genus.

Was that picture taken recently or when you got it? If flowers are dropping and there are still buds then it may be cause for concern. Some Phals will be sequential bloomers which will have a few flowers, then those will drop as new buds are opening, but most will open all the flowers in quick sucession, then keep them open for a couple of months then drop them.

Yours looks like the sort that will open them all together but I could be wrong.
