Red face Hello from Vancouver

Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a retired librarian and have been growing orchids in my north-facing apartment for about 10 years. It started as a Mother's Day orchid and now my collection is comprised of over 40 plants. Have a look at my profile for a list.

I have long ago reached the point where I need to acknowledge that orchids have become nearly an obsession. I love them, particularly the fragrant ones, and I can't resist buying them when I attend orchid shows. I even adopt "throwaway orchids", when my friends threaten to toss them for not blooming.

I look forward to learning a great deal here and maybe making some contacts, too.

Hi White Rabbit,

Thanks so much for your kind reply. I looked at some of your orchid images and I'm green with envy over some of them. Your collection is beautiful!

I am a photographer and have taken many photos of my orchids over the years. Since they seldom bloom at the same time, it may give the impression that my place looks like a garden, but at the moment, I have only 2 in bloom.

Take care and have a look at my stuff later in the week.

aww thanks - My collection is not large compared to many members - that said - I had 16 orchids when I joined OB (had more at one time, but some died, some I gave away, and I wasn't adding to my collection for some time), and now have around 100! My growing has much improved since joining OB - previously I had 1 that bloomed well and regularly. I still have quite a few I am trying to figure out tho lol. This is the first time I have a number blooming well at the same time! I'm quite happy about that
I look forward to seeing pix of yours
I'm sure you will enjoy participating on the board - I know I sure have! Lots of very nice people with good knowledge!

Default Vancouver Orchid Show

Would anyone be interested an a few shots I took at the most recent Vancouver Orchid Society Show? They are not my orchids, but the pics turned out fairly well.

Thanks a million! I am a photographer and have quite a few images on my computer. Should I post photos of orchids I do not own, such as the 2010 Vancouver Orchid Show?
