newmoon,
The group here seems pretty inviting, so I'd guess we're in the right spot.

Hello from a fellow mid-Floridian! This past winter was horrible. I lost most of my phals- even though they were well protected and have survived other freezes. I'm counting them out in my next venture at setting some orchids free in my yard.
My native Encyclia tampensis and Encyclia cochleata did fine- the Clamshell orchid just started blooming.

catthom,
Thanks for the comments. I sympathize about your loss. It was indeed a cold winter. Fortunately, I had my orchids in the house, so no problem.
In the future, however, I hope to have a greenhouse, and if so, I'll make sure to have gas heat available. My father lost about 350 orchids in the 1980s (in northwest Florida) because he was unable to adequately heat his greenhouse with electric space heaters, which were not equal to the task.
Noting your encyclia, I have an Encyclia Nursery Rhyme in bloom and if others are as nice as this one, I am sure there are others in my near future.

Welcome to OB Art. I am also a Floridian, in my case Winter Haven in Polk County. I also have Axlra. Terra Venn 'Mauna Kea,' I bought mine at the Fort Pierce Farmers market a couple weekends ago. Besides the Mauna Kea, I have close to 100 total: these include oncidiums, hard-cane dendrobiums, a few nobile dendrobiums, phalenopsis, cymbidiums, cattleyas, brassavola hybrids, epidendrums, and a phais. I lost quite a few of my plants, this past winter too, mostly phalenopsis. Anyway, its always nice to meet other Floridians.

Amandalee,
Thanks for responding. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of some of your orchids. I'm now at about 21 orchids and they will doubtlessly be joined by others as the summer rolls on. Where they'll stay this winter will prove interesting as I have no green house. I look forward to learning more about them as I get the opportunity.
