Orchid lover (Montreal)-Dendrobium growth? Female
Default Orchid lover (Montreal)-Dendrobium growth?

Hello! I'm a new member to the forum, and like all of you is absolutely in LOVE with orchids. I bought a Dendrobium orchid last spring and it has yet to re-bloom. The leaves still look great, but I decided to move it to a sunny window in my office bout a couple of months ago. To my surprise, today I noticed a growth at the base of the plant. I believe it is a NEW cane, but just wanted some professional opinions Can anyone advise?

Welcome to Orchid Board

Yeap, thats the start of a new cane. I remember the excitement of seeing my first, looking just like that. I was just as excited this year when I saw something similar on three of my Dens.

Wow! I didn't think I would get so many responses and so fast that's pretty cool! Thanks for all the wonderful feedback. It seems like it grew quite a bit over the weekend. I also have a gorgeous phal at home that's blooming its 3rd flower now. The only thing is, the stem is barely 9 inches tall! I read somewhere that's it's due to high light, although it's in an East facing window, and only gets the morning light. I don't mind it though, it can be admired at eye level when we're sitting at the kitchen table !

Sometimes a short cane on a phal can also be genetic. Some of them just don't produce tall spikes. Although if it has in the past it may be some other factor.
