Hi,

Thanks, Sweetjblue. I will check them out.
Is it possible to get Pamela Hetherington anymore or am I dreaming?

Hi Terri,
Where are you located? I got a Pamela Hetherington 'Coronation' (which I already killed) from an orchid hobbyist here in Cali last year. When I went to his greenhouse (last year) he still has a few Pamela Hetherington 'Coronation' (if that's what you're looking for) It's just hard to talk to him on the phone because he's an 84 y.o. asian guy with a thick accent but I can try and call him and check if you're interested. Oh, and one more thing, his orchids are not cheap, I paid $80 on mine but his plants are very healthy.

Hi Marissa,
It is my understanding that Pamela Hetherington was the first orchid with this name put out by Stewart's Nursery a long time ago, like maybe 15 years ago. I have seen Pamela Hetherington "Commemorative" and PH "Coronation" but they do not smell the same and the color is different.
Do you have any resources that could verify that I am right in this or narrow it down to a year or something? Maybe if I had more specific info, I could add to my search criteria and locate a plant.
I live in PA.

No, sorry. All I remember was that he was telling me the history of the orchid but I wasn't paying attention because I was too busy browsing his greenhouse

If you don't have the actual name of the PH clone you are looking for, you may not be able to find one that smells the way you remember it (yours sounds like it was not a named cultivar that was cloned and so you may never get exactly what you are looking for). Because it is an older cross, the most popular clones (and ones that you will most likely be able to find) are going to be the ones that have been awarded, like 'Coronation.'
I hope this all makes sense. You could always be on the lookout for someone who has remade the cross and buy some seedlings, grow them out, and see if any are like the one you remember. Other than that, you may be stuck with the popular clones that are available.
Good luck with your search!

Oh, my I hope not. I can't give up after all this time. It seems unlikely that there are NO original PH clones left. I don't know. The search goes on. Perhaps someone here will have a brilliant idea. Thanks.

I'm a little confused (and someone correct me if I'm wrong or not understanding something here). What do you mean by original PH clone?... If it doesn't have a clonal name, like 'Coronation' then it is not a clone (at least in the sense that you can go out and buy it in mass or even if you got a division that was unawarded/didn't have a clonal name, you wouldn't know how it would be unless you saw it in person). The hybrid, Pamela Hetherington, is just the name for any offspring that are produced using two specific parents (in this case Pardisio and Mount Anderson). There is no original clone that is called 'Pamela Hetherington' that is the hybrid name and applies to all offspring with those parents.
Again , I may not be exapling this well...but to my knowledge, there is a hybrid called Pamela Hetherington (with famous clones like 'Coronation') and there are no clones that are Pamela Hetherington 'Pamela Hetherington' and so no original PH clone...

Hi Orkie,
I can see that my original post could be confusing. Thanks for that.
Let me give a brief back story. I received this orchid as a gift from a longtime experienced breeder in 1989. My plant was a division from his plant and was labled as "Pamela Hetherington."
After a lot of research and help from more experienced folks, it seems to me that either my freind's plant was an unawarded sibling of the original cross or was mislabeled and was in fact Pamela Hetherington 'Pastel.'
Does that make sense?
