Hi,

I bought an orchid from home depot

I've always admired them but never taken the opportunity to purchase one. So, I took the row of orchid's in front of the checkout aisles as a sign....

Anyways, I would just like to say 'Hi' and thanks for having me!

Welcome to you! And welcome to the "dark side". This is where all your spare cash goes (and credit cards as well )
As you grow in your hobby you MAY become less excited about Home Depot (or other Big Box stores) in favor of some of the advertisers who post here. I say this because of quality for the dollars spent. Mostly you are limited to Phals or Dendrobiums or (rarely) Oncidiums at HD and at the vendors here you can get any of the species or crosses we all talk about in these posts. Have a great time growing orchids - they can be frustrating at times, but are always a blessing when they bloom for you for the first time (not counting what the grower did.)

I did some research and I read that the big box stores sell Hybrid phals that can be traced back to Phal amabilis. And, their coloration from Phal sanderiana and Phal schilleriana. I just bought two from there yesterday, and I don't know what colour they will be yet.
Best of luck....On another thread, it was suggested that we repot these phal asap, and check for insects and medium breakdown...

Aboard, nice to have you here and you have made your way to the best orchid information on the web. There is a gallery where you can upload your s to share with others as well as checking out what our members are growing. Orchids are like potatoe chips you just cant buy one

If you do repot your orchid, the medium in orchid growing is much different than your normal household plants. At any given box store, nursery, or one of our or web vendors you can purchase orchid medium of all kids, water weekly and fert weak weekly (1/2 the manufactures said amount), good air circulation and misting of the leave only, blooms do not take a liking to direct misting...just a quick how to, please do not hesitate to ask and we shall help...please chime in as well...
