Default New to the OB, help with my Den

Glad to have found the OB, I am new to growing orchids and I can't wait to hear the helpful advise. The place I work had an orchid sale and I ended up buying six orchids. 4 Phaleonopsis, 1 cymbidium and 1 den.(Samphran Brown) 2 of the phal. suffered bud blast until I put them near the kitchen sink. I hope they like it there because the other 2 are doing well. The cymbidium and the den also suffered from bud blast and I still can't tell if it likes where it is now. Some of the flowers and buds have started wilting and the lower leaves of the den are turning yellow. What am I doing wrong? I have a fan and a humidifier going and it is near a south facing window. I am wondering if it is getting too much light? I have not watered it since I got it 2 weeks ago. Help! I don't know how to nurse it back to health.

You may be doing nothing wrong. Often the change in environment can cause buds to drop. Have you checked the roots to make sure they are in good shape? Rotted roots are one of the most common problems and can also result in issues like bud blast.

well, not wateringing at all in 2 weeks sounds extreme.....i would think any living thing would need a drink.....most orchids need water once a week, depending on the media they are planted in....lack of humidity can cause bud blast, as well as simply moving from one place to another.....its hard to say.....but providing adequate care reduces the chance of bud blast and leaf loss....check with the aos (american orchid society) culture sheets on the different species you have....gl

Good idea to go to AOS.org site and get the needed culture sheets. You can also invest in a good basic orchid book (there are several) which could offer you lots of tips. Welcome to OB, a wonderful site with lots of helpful folks.

Welcome to the OB! I agree, they probably need to be watered a little more often depending on what they are planted in. And check those roots, they are easy to rot especially if they are in moss.

Welcome aboard! Ive seen lots of helpful tips given your way already. One last thing, be patient. Give your plant time to adjust to the new environment.
