Question New Member

Hi,
I just joined today and I need some help!
I just acquired some vanda and one type of cattleleya orchids from a friend and I am in the process of re-screening my greenhouse. I live in the Fl. Keys and I would like to know what percent of shading do I need for both varieties of orchids? Also I noticed that the screens come in metal and colors like white. I originally had black when I had cattleleyas before the hurricane took them out.

Hope someone can help!
Thanks:

Hello and Welcome,

Can't help you with those two Alliances, but if you post a new thread in the "Beginners" section, some one out there is more than likely able to help you. (They may not catch it in here)

or you could even have a look at the Alliance sections of the board you should be able to find what you are looking for.

Also, Check out member articles.

being in the fla keys, i would recommend the white shade cloth and at least a 60% shade, are you covering the entire house or just the roof?....gl!

Welcome to Orchid Board.

I can't help I'm afraid. As Triffid said, if you don't get the answers you need in this introductions area then try the beginners section you might find more people who can help there.

I don't have a light meter and it is the whole greenhouse I am covering. The house is one side and 3 sides and the roof would be covered leaving an opening on the top for ventilation and we are leaving one 3 ft. open on the side also open for ventilation. We also have a tree on one corner. It faces south and I have vandas only one cataleya. I read online that they need shade 25-40 percent. So I am not sure what to do.
Thanks for getting back so fast!
