Never had an orchid before!
Default Never had an orchid before!

My husband took me to the flower show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco the other week and we came home with 5 new orchids! I am not new to plants, just orchids and I must admit, I'm a bit aprehensive about them. This website seems just the thing to get me going and to be sure we do the right things by our new plants. We got all Cattleya plants. I sure hope they're hardy and forgiving!!

Anyhow, hello.

Welcome
Ask any questions you may have. Most orchids, including cattleya are very forgiving. Be sure to give it good light

Aboard Joyce...glad you found the OB, its a great place to learn about your orchids and as most of us...bet ya can't stop buying them. Your choice was an excellent one, either in bloom or on their way to blooming. Here is a tidbit of info for you on you choice of orchids from AOS (American Orchid Society). If you have the bug of orchid growing, 5 for your first time around you might want to look in your area for an orchid society where you can learn so much, exchange information, actually just about anything plant/orchid related. Also we have a gallery where you can take s of your collection and enjoy other members s as well. Hummmmm wonder how many you will have a year from now. 50+, that's the ticket.

Hi Joyce...welcome to Orchidboard!

The main thing I've learned in the two years I've been addicted...and yes, it IS an addiction , is that orchids are not as fragile as we all seem to think at first.

You will find information, hints and tips from people who have been growing orchids for decades and from those of us only just starting out here at Orchidboard
Our members are very generous in sharing their accumulated knowledge...much of what I now know I learned from my OB friends

We'd love to see some pictures, check out our awesome gallery!!! WOW!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask...you've got lots of people willing to help you learn

Hi Joyce, Welcome to the Orchid Board. Glad you decided to come here for help. I would also suggest to you going to the library or book store and getting a basics orchid book. They aught to be cheap. You learn a lot from these very quickly. COngrats on you new aquisitions!!
