Hi Sheeba! Do you know what species of Acampe you have? I don't find a lot of info on the internet, but I can check Orchid Wiz for you and also orchidspecies.com.

According to a picture of an Acampe sp. I see in the book Wild Orchids in Myanmar by Dr. Yoshitaka Tanaka, it grows as an epiphyte on trees with a little bit of moss. It's in bright shade to moderately bright indirect light.

hi Becca,

when i received it (collected from wild) it had a tiny spike. Now it has bloomed (see the pix).

I caring it like we care for Vanda. I hope I am taking the right care.

I think it is Aacape rigida, does this belong to Vanda species?

Hi Sheeba! Well the flowers look pretty similar to Acampe rigida, but the lip on your flowers is white and the photo on IOSPE seem to be all yellow with the red or orange barring. I'm not an expert at this so hopefully someone else will jump in. Here is a link to the description of Acampe rigida: IOSPE PHOTOS

An interesting note, if you check out the other names or synonyms for this plant on the link I provided you it is also know as Gastrochilius, Aerides, or Vanda...so maybe you might be able to find more information under a different name...I'll check OrchidWiz tonight and see what name it comes up under!

And to answer your question, I do believe it belongs in the vanda alliance.

Hi Sheeba! I was just looking at Acampe on my Orchid Wiz program and I believe your Acampe is Acampe pachyglossa, not rigida. Acampe rigida appears to have a yellow lip, yours is white with some purple markings like what Acampe pachyglossa looks like. Your photo is blurry looking but that is what it looks like! Also Orchid Wiz doesn't give any growing culture info for pachyglossa, but it does for rigida. I would think they would require similar culture...but I could be way wrong! For rigida: 3000-4500 footcandles. Light should be filtered or diffused and plants should not be exposed to direct midday sun. Strong air movement should be provided at all times. Summer day temps avaerage 85-86F (29-30C) and nights average 70-71F (21-22C) with a diurnal range of 15-16F (8-9C).

If you need any additional info such as humidity or winter culture info just let me know! Hope this will help you some!

Acampe spp. are in the Vanda Alliance. So yes, they are definitely related to Vandas.

If you're growing it like a Vanda, it should be roughly the same kind of culture.

Like I said bright shade to moderate indirect. It's an epiphyte. Intermediate to warm. There is very little moss on the trees they come from, they're almost undetectable. Growing without moss is acceptable too if the humidity is high enough.

Let us know if you have further questions regarding this plant.

I agree with Becca about it being Acampe pachyglossa. The blooming information that I have found also seems to agree with how yours is behaving.
