Phalaenopsis, something is growing at the base
Helloooo, I have a Phal that last summer flowered for about eight months!! I repotted it after it flowered and it produced two big leafs and new roots, I now have something growing at the base, it doesn't look like a spike, maybe it's a Keiki in early stages, can anyone help. Pictures are attached. Thank you.

It is either a basal keiki (a baby growing off of the mother plant) or the start of a new spike. You'd be surprised what a new spike looks like to start off with. But only time will tell!
Also, I'm curious with how often you have to water with your phal in a netted pot? I have not seen a phal in a netted pot before. I would think it would dry out to quickly, but yours looks healthy and happy!

For now it looks a lot like a spike. I've never seen a basal keiki so don't know what they look like when they first start growing.

hard to tell but Im betting on a keiki the larger than usual swelling at the juncture where its is attached makes me think keiki.....I have one phal that like to make basal keikis often, its now a clump and pretty big I love it.....

I also think it looks more like a basal keiki than a spike, though it could be either.

For me it's a basal keiki.

I usually water it once every 7-10 days, the media does dry out quicker in this type of pot, but I have this plant in coconut husk chips, which tend to retain a lot of water, so it all balances itself out.
