Grower in Brooklyn - who are you?
Hi,
I have been on the orchid board for a while. I recently moved to from Queens, NYC to Brooklyn. On my trainride home on the JMZ, I notice at the Myrtle trainstop there appears to be an orchid grower there!
He has really bright growlights, not fluorescents, but the other kind (i have fluorescents) and it looks like orchids growing in there. I can see into the grow area from the elevated train platform.
Who are you, or does anyone know who this is?
I'd love to see your green apartment.

Hi Stefpix,
the mysterious grower is at the Myrtle stop at broadway, myrtle (and stuyvesant?)
Its the stop where the M diverges from the J and the Z. I hear this is where they filmed some scene in "the french connection" - i have never seen the movie. Anyway, it is on the north side of the street just about 2 or 3 bldgs east of Mr. Kiwi organic market...it is on the 2nd or 3rd floor, i cant remember but building is only 3 stories. i cant totally tell what is growing in there but i think there are hanging baskets. I dont think it is anything illegal because the light is so blazing obvious in the evening. if you are there around 6 pm the place glows like mad - 2 windows on the south side of the bldg and 1 or to on the east side. I may just leave a note in the foyer for whomever...
Yes, i have seen the grower on Saint Marks, there are some interesting plants in there...very curious.
My stop is Kosciusko on the J. I live on Lafayette ave in Bed-stuy. While the train is moving from Myrtle to Kosciusko if you look south-east you can see my growlights until about 6:30. they are t5s on a bunch of screwy angles. it looks like a lightsaber fight from the train.
You are in bushwick then? are you an artist?

what do you grow?
i am close to greenpoint and bushwick but I technically am in east williamsburg maybe 10 blocks from the Broadway Triangle where Bushwick/Bed Stuy/Williamsburg meet.
where do you get your plants for?
windowsill or lights?
Well you must live close to Home Depot and that amazing community garden/orchard on Lafayette and Marcy.
Did you buy your T5s at Home Depot?
I got T12s + 25W CFL close to the plants but I was thinking of upgrading to those basic T5s. At least get one...
what do you grow?
I am a freelance photographer - you can check the links in my signature - although have not updated my sites in 6 months -

YAY BROOKLYN! Represent! I'm not your mystery grower either, but wanted to give a shout out to y'all other Brooklynites. I'm in Carroll Gardens/Gowanus/Redhook.
Cheers!

Have you considered getting off the train, and going and knocking on the door? If nothing else, you could leave a note with your contact info.
