Hi from Colorado (noob) Female
Default

I figured potting soil wasn't good...when he told me he threw away what spilled and replaced it with Miracle Gro soil...I kind of cringed. I'm using orchid mix in all of mine - it's the bark and pebbles and such that I got from our local independent nursery.

I'm in Colorado, so semi-arid usually, and especially arid right now, given the dry winter air inside. I water once a week (everyone has good drainage), but spray the leaves and top of the roots/bark daily with distilled water, as things dry out so fast here. I have a 120W gro-lite flood bulb suspended above the cluster of orchids, as they're at least 10 feet from the closest window. Does this sound like a reasonable set up, at least until I learn more? I'm paranoid that if I follow general care instructions, it won't take into consideration the climate where I'm at and I'll end up killing them. So far so good, but does my setup have any glaring errors to anyone? Appreciate any input. This place is an addictive read, and I can't wait till I have more time to go exploring further!
