Default Hi- Im new!

Hi everyone. I just recently got sucked in. Bought a nameless Phalaenopsis(sp?) at Lowe's and was hooked. Since then Ive purchased another nameless Phal, a Dendrobium hybrid at Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh (which was marked incorrectly as "Salaya Fancy" but upon doing a little research I found that its actually a Burana of some sort. The closest pic I could find to it said "Burana Slmahloe"), and most recently I bought a Degarmoara 'Jay Yamada' at a show in Pittsburgh, also at Phipps. I have 3 more en route via FedEx that should be here this week! (yay!)
Anyway, just saying HI and the board has been ultra helpful so far. I also realized that I have tons to learn.

Heres a pic of my collection so far: (L-r) nameless Phal, Jay Yamada, Dend Burana (in spike!), other nameless Phal. I recently put in a humdity tray because my house is wicked dry. (im adding at least 5 gallons to my 55 gallon aquarium every week)

Im thinking I may need to divide the Jay Yamada after the current spike is done blooming- there are what appear to be about 7 plants in that one pot. Is this normal? Will each of those bloom at some point? Thoughts?

thanks again!
matt

You got a really nice collection, and lucky you most seem to be in bloom! Congrats. Im not familiar with Jay Yamada. Do you know what the genus of the plant is?
Welcome to the Orchid Board, glad you joined up!

Hi Matt

You've got a nice collection started there...but I predict you'll be fully addicted like the rest of us before long

You've found a wonderful community to learn all you can about orchids We've got a fantastic membership, always willing to help each other and we have fun at the same time

I wouldn't divide anything in that picture unless you need space and will be sending me one of the divisions

If you have any questions, feel free to ask

Thanks for the replies!
Tindo-
from what I can gather there have been several changes to the orchid genus registry (which I didnt realize existed until this morning :P)
The former name was "Degarmoara Memoria 'Jay Yamada'"- now it's "Aliceara Memoria 'Jay Yamada'".
Dont know if this helps. All I can tell you is that its some sort of Oncidium (im still new with all of this scientific naming and whatnot)

In that case, I would not divide it either. Big Oncidium types are cool!
