Hello!
Hi everyone. I'm an orchid hobbyist, although I wish I had time to be a little more! I am glad I came across this site because I occassionally have questions that my books can't answer.
My husband bought an orchid for me (a Cattleya) about 8 years ago. The poor plant has survived being blown over in the wind, over watering, a big, fat cat sitting on top of it trying to get to the cat nip.... Since then I've added several others, and out of the 10-12, I've only lost 2. My vanilla plant, which is (or should I say was) my favorite, fell from its pot last summer, all the roots and the plant itself ripped from the potting material. I repotted it, and it was doing fine, but I recently noticed that it doesn't seem it's going to make it.
I would also like to mention that I'm from Northeast Ohio, Cleveland area.... so if anyone is from around here and has any suggestions for good, reputable shops that sell orchids, please let me know! I know of a two, but one is going out of business! I missed the big orchid show this year, and I am looking for a few particular varieties!
Thanks!
It'll be nice to talk to everyone!

Welcome to the Orchid Board Erica. Too bad about your Vanilla? I hope it wasn't close to flowering size.
I'm sure thise Board can answer any questions you throw at it. Maybe if you ask your question in another subforum more will see it? Glad you joined up

welcome i am from northeast ohio as well i am between akron and youngstown we have gone to gales in strongsville and picked up some most i get from local society shows and i go to local nurseries and find some shoved back in a corner being neglected. i got two yesterday in great shape for six dollars each in akron. other than that online i just purchased from oak hill. if you have a giant eagle inyour area with a florist shop check them out around mothers day they get most of theres from the bidwell training center in pittsburgh it is a school that grows over 70,000 a year to sell wholesale. the plants are in excellent shape and are decent price. if you can get down to phipps conservatory in pittsburgh they sell from the bidwell training center and will have some in 8 inch pots for 30.00 on down

Welcome. I am in motel right now just west of Cleveland and want to give you a hearty welcome. We've all experienced some sort of weird experiences either with pets, weather, or other things, so don't feel like you are the only one. I'd ask Marty to review your post count though, since it has to be at least 1 - not 0!
