Hi, im new Male
Default Hi, im new

Hey y'all, Im kind of new. I joined about a year ago and posted a handful of times, but then went inactive. But I am back with a stronger addiction to orchids than ever

A little about me, im a poor college student, I love photography animals and horticulture. I play soccer and have since I was about 4, and I love to read.

As of right now I have three orchids in bloom

My Oncidium "sherry baby" is blooming for the first time, as of right now she has about 20 flowers open and many more buds. I also have two Phalaenopsis that are in bloom. I have another Phalaenopsis that has a stem and one Denrobium that just finished blooming. Thats all, though I am definitely getting more as soon as I move (I am moving the first of December).

My favorite species of Orchid is Phahiopedilum, though I have yet to find any

Looking forward to meeting y'all.

Also, I have attached some pics of my orchids

Hi crzyorchids! Welcome back! It's nice to see other young people on the forum.

For the first several years that I grew orchids I couldn't find Paphs either. I drooled at them on the Internet but as a young teenager with no access to a credit card and a mother unwilling to use hers for my growing addiction, I couldn't buy any. What really exposed me to the orchid world and allowed me to start buying tons of Paphs was joining my local orchid society. Every month I come into contact with enablers that will sell me plants!

In the past couple years I have just started ordering plants online. I think the most important thing is to order from reputable vendors. I always check out vendor feedback before I order. This forum has a section for vendor feedback I believe, so that makes it a bit easier!

I really like the way you have lit the flowers from below in your photos. It makes them look mysterious and a little ethereal. Nice job!

Hi, im new Female
Default Hi, im new

Welcome crzy...well we're all crzy after all these years about orchids. I thought I'd send you some info and links for slipper orchids. Truthfully, I've gravitated to Phrags rather than Paphs because Phrags have been kinder to me. From my experience you have to be careful about what Paphs you choose to grow and need to obtain plants as mature as possible. Some, particularly, those termed "strap leaf" or "multi-floral" have species in the parentage which take forever to mature and bloom - you'd been out of graduate school and well into your career before you ever see a flower. For your first stop visit or join your local orchid society - this would appear to be the Atlanta Orchid Society Atlanta Orchid Society They have a group of members called Green Growers that make monthly trips to local greenhouses. This way you can meet others, view their plants and learn about growing conditions.

On line groups include: paphs.net
and Slippertalk Orchid Forum- The best slipper orchid forum for paph, phrag and other lady slipper orchid discussion! - Powered by vBulletin

Slipper vendors I'd recommend include:
Marilyn Le Doux of Windy Hill Gardens www.orchidmall.com/windyhill/index.htm
Glen Decker of Piping Rock Orchids Piping Rock Orchids Home Page
Tom Purviance and John Salvente of Parkside Orchid Nursery Home Page
Earl and Phyllis Bailey of Orchid BabiesRare orchid flasks and seedlings from Orchidbabies

May you have many years of crziness!
