I am so happy I found this site! My hubby and I now have a small family farm raising pastured eggs, chicken, turkey and now pork in upstate NY. So I am home most days and growing my orchids for pure fun.
I don't have many any more. At one time I had over 200--mostly Phals. But I sold them off and gave them away when I had to work full time elsewhere. Now that I'm home again, I'm working on my collection. I love my phals, and am now venturing into some of the other, still beginner orchids. Even tho I have grown them off and on for years I don't feel I have truely mastered the art and am looking forward to learning more.
Do you have any Goodyeras there?? some kind of native jewel orchid! need to check where Utica is. been to Ithaca, Troy, New Paltz, Bear mountain etc...
do you have Lyme ticks up there?
have a friend from CT he caught it once and took a while to heal.

My father in law actually just recovered from Lyme's so I guess I have to say yes we do. I haven't ever seen a tick on our place. But one is all it takes I guess
Utica is about 38 miles east of Syracuse.
I have heard we have wild orchids here but havent seen any tho... I am still learning whats out there
No green house here... everything I grow for the moment, has to be in the house so it limits me a lot. ONE day I will have my orchid house tho
Well check Goodyera repens [ i think - had 3/ 4 beers at some event so my memory is not as sharp]...
Well I was in Montreal and they were taling abou Lyme ticks spreading to Québec. maybe more venison burgers would help control the disease!
Anyway if you have a farm and find some Goodyera repens... the leaves look lovely.
