Well

Another new bod to greet the community of Orchid and Plant fans here.

Well I found this link through Google when researching ways to keep my first ever Orchid alive. It was a gift from my husband for our fourth anniversary and what can I say but I love it!

I have always put off buying one myself, mainly because most people I spoke to about it said that they were especially difficult to keep. So for years I stuck with roses and other such Flora that I was comfortable with. Now though only a couple of weeks on from receiving my first Orchid, a Phalaenopsis, I'm hooked (Already eyeing up the cut price ones at the local store and wondering if they can be brought back from the brink?)

So here I say Hello and thank you, to you all for providing such a good place to come and see what's possible with Orchids. And a huge thanks in advance for the tips I know I'll pick up on the way.

Welcome to Orchid Board Triffid from a fellow Brit

Phals are fairly easy for the UK conditions provided you get the watering sussed. The easiest way to avoid root rot is to wait until the roots are silver before you water again, then water thoroughly and allow it to drain well.

I keep eyeing the cut price Phals in Sainsburys or Asda when I do my shopping, but I have to resit most times. My avatar was my most recent one last month

Johnblagg - Good to know, you give me hope!

BelliniGirl - Yes, one then many. Looking forward to adding as many as I can get away with.

RosieC - Thanks for the watering tip. Articles I've read so far hadn't mentioned that one. See I've already learnt something new. Fantastic! (Nice Orchid Pic by the way! Both the Flower and Composition of Image)

Hi Triffid, I'll just add my agreement to the comments above - orchids are like chocolate biscuits; one is never enough! And like Rosie I always having a quick skinny at the plants in Sainsbury's and Asda, and when I can't justify a new one for myself I can usually find an excuse to buy one for someone else!
Enjoy!!

I'm so glad I don't waste cash on jewellery
Chocolate Biscuits and Flowers sounds a bit like heaven to me.

Thank you again for your warm welcomes.

Time to go and learn some more things!
