Greetings from Alaska
Hi everyone,
I have posted a few times so I thought I should introduce myself. Living in Alaska has it's pluses but I must admit to a high degree of envy when I read, "I have my orchids outside around my pool" posted by other members. The only orchids I have that will survive outside is a few oncidiums that can go out from May to September.
I have a few phals, oncidiums and dendrobiums. My first orchid was a birthday present three years ago. I was a beautiful oncidium that has rebloomed every year. Boy is it easy to get hooked! A fellow collector once told me, "You can pay $10 to $20 for a bouquet of cut flowers that last a week or buy an blooming orchid for $30 that will last for months. Even if it never reblooms you are way ahead." Yeah, that's my reasoning and I'm sticking to it!
It is so enjoyable to play around and try to figure out what each plant needs, wants, likes. I can see this will be a lifetime hobby.

Welcome, and valid point, I'll have to tell that one to my husband! And I don't have a pool to place my plants around either, so cheers!

I love the username!
Welcome to OrchidBoard...where we all feed one another's addictions and more importantly, help each other by sharing our experiences. I agree with you...a major part of my love for orchids is the learning process. It would be impossible to become "bored" with this!
Lots of friendly folks here...and they bring LOTS of information! We've got a great chat room. We usually start gathering there around 8pm est. I've learned many things while talking in the chat room...and some of it is actually about orchids!

I agree 100%!!! Exactly! That's what I've been telling my husband since I started to grow orchids and other plants--now we only buy potted plants, preferably orchids, for any occasion. It works great!!!
