I live in Waldorf, Maryland but am originally from Bandung, Indonesia.

I registered as a member last february 2009 and have been growing orchids since then. l love this new hobby, and it is worth every minute I've spent caring for them.

With orchids everyday is a new day, a different day. Everyday some orchid plants are growing new roots, new leaves, spike initiated, flower buds forming, flower blooming, and dying while at the same time the other orchid plants just stop growing completely. My point is that orchids are such a fascinating group of plants, and fragrance is a bonus for us to enjoy (pollinators have to wait for their turn).

I had been into tropical fish and exotic parrots prior to this new hobby but feeding them, cleaning the fish tanks and bird cages every day had proved to be too much work for me not to mention the mess they made. I'm talking about ten fish tanks and six bird cages.

The reason I hadn't posted any thread because back then I only had a couple of plants, both of them were Phals. currently, they are growing new leaf and one of them is in short spike already. I've learned so much about the orchid culture in general, particularly Phalaenopsis species, primary and complex hybrids.

I'm looking forward to learning and seeing beautiful pictures of orchid flowers from you guys.

Please visit my orchid collection in my Albums. Happy growing.

AJ

.Ps, sorry if my English is not perfect, any corrections would be more than welcome.

Hi AJ, and welcome. You thought fish and birds were bad- wait until your plant collection gets a bit bigger...

Welcome to Orchid Board AJ

How many orchids do you have? I only have a few compared to some of the people here. I had just 5 this time last year and now I have 19.

The Phals in your album are wonderful ones. I love those colours but I've not got any like them yet.

Do your kittens every chase the parrots? In one of the pics it looks like they are poised to pounce!

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome.I'm glad I found this wonderful board.

Rosie, I don't know exactly how many orchids I have, but I would guess around 150 and I still want more. They say less is more, I disagree, not wiyh orchids.
The kittens are still small, as they grow bigger I would have to keep the birds in their cage.

Thank you Brad and Epiphile for your warm welcome, and looking forward to gaining some knowledge from you guys and contributing some.

AJ
