The inevitable hello.

Hi all, just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Brian, I live in Minnesota, USA. I've been growing and training Bonsai as a hobby for about 13 years.. I'm an avid plant-a-holic, and was introduced to orchids by a co-worker a few months ago; she cast her line, set it, and patiently reeled me in.

I'm hooked.

I've been reading, researching, trying to figure out the alliances and families, the somewhat convoluted nomenclature, and the sometimes fussy requirements. I just can't get enough information fast enough, and I'm loving every minute of it. Bonsai are enjoyable in a calm and patient way, while orchids for some reason are just exciting. I can't really wrap my brain around WHY, they just are.

Well, that's my rambling and probably incoherent introduction. See you guys around!

Thanks for all the welcomes! My coworker is NOT evil. I just don't think she knew how obsessive I get when I find a something that really interests me. I've been reading and researching and staring at my plants.

I'm lucky that I had a decent background in horticulture, or my orchids may well have succumbed to recent pest problems (mites and gnats and mealies, oh my!). But all seems to be well other than my DTPS refusing to grow new roots (it was severely stricken with root-rot when I got it).

I have pods forming on my Phal. and I'm probably going to attempt to flask, (evil horticultural science degree, here I come!).. Just for the experience more than anything. I want to eventually be able to try and develop my own crosses, and the best way for me to learn is to make mistakes... If I lose a few crops of NOID seed, it wont bother me as much as something I'm severely invested in, hehe.

Well... that was a strange little ramble wasn't it? I just wanted to thank everyone for the welcome, and the wealth of knowledge from posts I've been reading, and I ramble on about myself. Oh well.
