Cool New Face in Minnesota, USA

I'm Anthony I'm 23 and I live in Plymouth, Minnesota, USA (Minneapolis suburb). I'm a student nurse and a hospital pharmacy technician. I'm an avid hiker and am quite fond of nature photography. If anyone is interested, my flickr page is Flickr: musicloveranthony's Photostream. I'm not sure if that link will work, if not, my Flickr username is musicloveranthony.

The orchid obsession is a rather new one, for me, but is already taking it's toll I've got an extra room in my apartment, as my roommate has moved out. This gives me reason to believe I need to fill it with plants! I'm very lucky to live about a mile from an amazing orchid nursery, Orchids Limited (Buy Orchids and Orchid Supplies). The owner and his son have been very helpful in getting me off to a good start!

I'll post pictures of a few of my plants:

Paphiopedilum primulinum var purpurescens
Paphiopedilum Macabre (the light green maudiae, not in bloom)
Paphiopedilum Petula's Song (the maudiae seedling)
Paph Luna Moth x Onyx 'Green Ice' x Raisin Magic 'Wharton' (the maudiae with unopened bud)
Aliceara Pacific Nova "Butter Buds"
Dendrobium phalaenopsis NOID (purple and white)
Phalaenopsis NOID (no stalk, blooms with white flowers on VERY long spike)
Paph NOID (the large purple bloom)
Pinguicala ehlersiae - I know this isn't an orchid, but it's an orchidist's best friend

I've also got 2 more Dendrobiums and 3 more Phals that I was given by a friend who moved and couldn't bring them...I spent hours removing the rotted sphagnum from them and repotting them...i'm not sure how they'll fare, but if they do well, pics of them will be to follow

I look forward to being a member, here

Hi and welcome to OB I live near the Roseville area so not quite as close to OL as you, thank goodness. Otherwise, I'd be living in a cardboard box. Have you had the full tour to see all the different growing rooms yet? The one in the back behind the register is huge.

The Orchid Society of MN is having a plant sale at Linder's, I think on the 19th of this month. You should check it out if you have time.

Great looking "paphs". Are you growing under lights?
I have great luck with everything but "paphs".
Welcome to the best web site for orchid advise.

Red face

Thank you for all the kind "s"! much appreciated

Tracy, no I haven't been into the back greenhouse at Orchids Limited! I can't imagine...it must be amazing!!! It really is financially dangerous living a mile away from such a great orchid nursery with such helpful staff! Thanks for the information about the MNOS show!! I'll most certainly be paying a visit

Donald (and others), I appreciate the compliment on the paphs. I seem to have pretty good luck with them. To answer your question, I don't use lights with my plants. They're in a west facing room that I allow filtered light through the blinds.

Also, thanks to anyone who took the time to peek at mah flickr page one of my paphs is just opening up its bloom and my new Bulbophyllum carunculatum is sending up a spike...so new pics will be to come
