Do you airbrush them? I'm an illustrator so I am curious at an artists viewpoints. Great job! They look so real!

Brenda,
Thanks again. I have just recently been getting the results I had hoped to acheive with the sculptures. I am selling a few at this point. Today was the first time to post on an Orchid site and I am amazed by the responses. Yes, I would like to try the Orchid shows etc. Need to do a bit more research on that, mabe start out locally and see where things go. I am a full time chef and also teach a ceramic class weekly, so I am on a bit of a short leash. Plus, my ceramic students have been begging for classes on making the orchids and the other flowers that I do. They do take some time to complete especially since I do a lot of research online before even attempting a new species. Any suggestions you may have as to where to show , blog etc. would be very much appreciated. I know some species of orchids are not the easiest to keep or grow and these are probably the next best thing...always in bloom!!! I agree that many Orchid affectionados would probably enjoy them very much.

Hi Lena,
These are not air brushed. They are painted and shaded with artist oil colors. The clay is also initially tinted with a base color (also in oils). I have been in the arts a lifetime and have also done illustration and many other types of art work and design. Thank you very much for your interest. Beautiful compliment from another artist!

Thank you very much RosieC!
Thanks to this site, I have had a great resource to research on. I'm sure I will learn a lot here about Orchids. I will be posting more pics soon. Currently I am working on some Vanda Orchids. I am gratefull that all you Orchid lovers on this site are so appreciative of my efforts.

Ron,
Just got a chance to look at your photos...orchids, etc.
Just magnificent! I will certainly refer to them when sculpting my orchids and other flowers.
Thank you!

Just as the others, the first thing I thought of is wow those are so real looking and would be easier to keep after! Sooo....do you have a website? How would a person go about ordering one? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to know!

Hello Becca,
Thank you for your compliments. I take great care in seeing that they are as realistic and botanically correct as possible. I do not have a web site yet but am looking into that possibility for the very near future. In the meantime, you can contact me through this site or at rgutman@msn.com. I will be posting other pictures as I complete new plants. I do have a few others that are ready for posting. If you have something particular in mind that you would like custom made, feel free to contact me concerning that. The orchids I have posted on this site are available, although I have yet to pot them and would like to add a few more leaves. The Cymbidiums are about 4" dia and approx. 20" - 24" tall. There are 6 blossoms and 8 buds on it. The Phaius are about the same dia. (the lips about 1" in dia) and again about 20" - 24" tall. It has 10 blossoms and several buds. I also do single flowers/stems (all types, not just orchids) and of course smaller and even larger versions of the orchid plants. Caring for these is a breeze...only a light dusting with a soft brush. With little care they can last a lifetime or more. Hope to hear from you and thanks for your interest.
Regards,
Ron
