Smile A big "Hi there!" from Bruges

Hi there!

Let me introduce myself, I'm Anthony, a 21 year old student from Bruges (Belgium).

My "collection" started with two orchids in november 2008, a white one (probably the "Ariadne" from Bock Bio Science) and a purple one "Queen of the Night" (it was tagged, also from Bock Bio Science). The purple has started producing new buds this month.

From then on I've bought orchids at a ratio 1 per month. I've got 13 Phalaenopsis now, 7 of them are in bloom right now, 1 is producing new buds and the other 5 have bloomed and are standing in the garage now facing the north windows producing new roots and leaves (it's a little bit colder there too so I hope that after a few weeks there's a chance they'll be producing new flowerspikes)

The latest one which has been added to the collection is the "Doritaenopsis Everspring Prince Harlequin" (pictures in my gallery), it's the first orchid I've bought online and ... well, on arrival I sadly noticed it's also the first one with a terminal spike so I'll have to force him to produce keiki's since it's such a wonderfull flower.

I'm looking forward to learn from everyone here on the board and am planning to expand my collection with Cattleya's, Vanda's and many other species.

Hi Anthony and welcome to Orchid Board

I'm sure you'll love it here.

Hope you manage to get a keiki from your Doritaenopsis, such a shame it has a terminal spike.

Thanks!

I actually find it strange that the shop sold this one at full price. In a local garden center I'd find it normal you pay full price (because of their lack of knowledge about the plants) but not at a specialized online store.

(I visited a garden center yesterday, 3 out of 10 plants (with 3 spikes) had a final spike ...)

Maybe I should complain at the store as I paid +/- 35 dollar / 24 euro for this one!

Hello Anthony,
welcome to OB.

To sad this shop sent you a Phal. with a terminal spike. If I were you, I would complain and request another plant. At least they should know you are not satisfied with the plant.

Hi Nicole

I've sent them an e-mail with my complaint, will see what they reply.

Luckily the Keiki Boost arrived today Now I've got to find when it's the best time to start.

Hello Anthony and welcome!
You have very nice phals ! and I can forseen you'll soon want more and more orchids
these orchids are tricky; you begin with one or two and soon you have twenty then fifty and so on...just have to find ways to "push the walls"
