Smile Good Morning from San Diego California!

Hi everyone!

I have been lurking for the past few days and decided it's about time I register. So here I am

My name is Jozett, but family and friends call me DJ and I go by that most of the time. So please feel free to call me DJ.

As you might have guessed, I am an Orchid Addict!
I've been actively growing and going to shows for the past 3-4 years. My mother brought me my first orchid as an Easter gift. It was a NOID Phal type but I just loved it, and promptly killed it. Probably less from the love and more from the water!
At any rate it began something I had no idea would result into a full-blown addiction. I ran out, bought every book on orchids I could find. I also bought more orchids then I knew what to do with. At one point, there were so many orchids on my kitchen floor that nobody could walk through without leaping from place to place. There were wires, grow lights, and bench lights..and oh god, it was something near to a disaster area.
So of course...it meant I probably needed a green house. LOL and like that..up it went! I had a greenhouse bigger then my living room built onto my house. 24x20
Can you sense the addiction part yet? There are even two bathrooms, which have been awaiting remodel since I moved into my house, but the greenhouse just HAD to make priority.
Since that time, I have quickly filled it. I have roughly 300-400 orchids of all types and sizes. My favorites being Laelia Anceps.
When I am not feeding my addiction of buying orchids I am photographing orchids at shows and taking pictures of buildings. Photography is my second hobby, not like I needed another! Still, the two often go well together.

As far as growing my orchids I am soooo not the expert. I would say I am bungling my way into experience I love to learn!
I am looking forward to learning even more and I'm just so glad there are forums like this for others like me!

DJ

Welcome DJ. I know all about addiction and mine has spread to insanity and it appears every known plant in the world. I hardly ever see one I don't like. This is a great place to learn and share experience.

YO! ANOTHER CALIFORNIAN! MAYBE THERE IS HOPE YET!
Hey just kidding!

Welcome to THE BOARD, DJ!
That's 5 bananas for the 5 Californians that I can think of who are members here.
Still think we are outnumbered by those lurkers in Florida!!!

To learn more and join in the BATTLE OF THE CHIDS check out the nightly CHAT at 5PM our time!!! Be prepared to get your licks in!!

Now how about some on your greenhouse and favorite orchids. Laelia anceps + San Diego =
24/7 year round outdoor culture! So I am confused: did you say you LIVED in your greenhouse????

Welcome to the Board and all I can say is WOW! I can still remember the early days out in Oregon when I grew orchids in a greenhouse and I appreciate the space and enjoyment it can give you. I'd love to see pictures and dream of the old days

Aboard, glad you joined the OB, sounds like you have plenty to offer as well. Loved your steps to the greenhouse but don't feel bad if the bathrooms flush and the shower works, the greenhouse was a great move . Can't wait to see your s of your greenhouse and it's occupants
