Default hi..new here..interested in phals and a ??

hi everyone...I've been reading this bb off and on a few years...I'm not a total novice to orchids...while at university, I became involved in a local orchid group..older folks with vast amounts of knowledge that they gladly shared... I was kind of their new generation and I learned so much...then after university I moved on to life and got away from it...now, 25 years later I'd like to get back into it.

Altho I like all orchids, I've always been really drawn to the phalaenopsis...so I've been looking around, and to my surprise most phals these days seem to multi and vibrant coloured flowers with a lot of doritas hybrids..smaller flowers...that wasn't so much a thing when I got interested...it's nice to see them...

however..I'm looking for the big "old-fashioned', I guess, whites and pinks and red-coloured lips and pink/white stripes...I'm going to try the new colours, but some of these large flowered "old school" phals is what I'd like to find...is anyone still doing them, can anyone point me in a general direction for finding them.?

much thanks...

iMark, welcome to the OB. I can't help with your quest for the "older" phals but someone will chime in.

Hi!

Those older Phals are still around. Just gotta find them. People still buy them.

Otherwise, find out what species people crossed in order to get the plants you like and remake the cross. I understand some classic C's, Blc's, L's, Lc's, and Slc's are being remade by some people. That way you'll have a decent sized collection of species Phals and hybrids.

Welcome to Orchid Board

I'm afraid I can't help with the "older phals". I've only got in to orchids in the last few years.

Hope you find what you are looking for and meanwhile keep an eye on everything people hear are growing and you'll get some great ideas. I love looking at everyone's pics and it just encourages me to buy more.

Hausermann's has a great selection of "old-fashioned" style Phals. And in the colors you are looking for. Though I can't say they are actual "old" hybrids they are in that fashion. www.orchidsbyhausermann.com
